If there’s one thing the Wendi Jay Design team knows, you can’t always plan when inspiration is going to strike. This authentic timber frame horse barn originally started as a storage barn.
The plan was to design a beautiful brand-new storage barn that would look old. The team researched old barns in Pennsylvania to find one the client liked that could serve as the initial design concept. In the middle of the project, the clients decided they wanted to expand the barn to include horse stalls. They also noted a new interest in including a casual gathering area.
Wendi and team quickly pivoted plans to create a space to meet the new requirements. The first floor of the building would be reserved for a caretaker's apartment, recreational space and horse stalls. Upstairs would be expansive storage space and include a powder room.
The result was a premier multipurpose barn. Large windows throughout allow for bright natural light. Locally sourced Pennsylvania fieldstone complements the barn’s crisp white outdoor walls and dramatic timber beams. All materials both inside and out blend harmoniously to create the feeling of old with a hint of new.
